Key Variables
How Can I Compare Measures with Different Names?
Are the KPIs captured by your organization named the same in every system? Are the names short enough for a chart? Or do they have embeded numbers and codes? Are your numbers rolled up the same way in every system?
To address these issues, RatioWriter™ separates the input from the output. The input or Report Item keeps the name and level of detail of the originating system. The output is either a Key Variable, or if a calculation is required, a Performance Ratio.
One or more Report Items are mapped to each Key Variable to provide data. This can be done to create a Common Name. Or to Aggregate Report Items to a desired level of detail. When a chart is generated, the Key Variable values are calculated based on the mappings.
